|
| Gobis
Contarary to what is generally tought, the Gobi is not a desert in the usual sense, that is, a sandy area completely devoid of vegetation. The Mongols do not talk single Gobi but of many Gobis. They list 33 different Gobis, according to soil composition and color. The Gobi zone represents a third of the total surface area of the country and, within this zone, sandy deserts account for only three percent of the entire Gobi Desert. This sandy gobi is called Tsul gobi. |
